Blog assignment #5 Slumdog Millionaire

10.-
• In one pivotal scene, the show’s host tells Jamal his own story about coming from the slums. He then gives
Jamal the wrong answer written on the mirror in the rest room. Why did he give Jamal the wrong answer?
Probably because he wanted him to lose all the money just because he was a boy of the streets, and he didnt like it that someone could win that much money on HIS program.
What did Jamal do?
He looked at the host at the eyes and decided to put in question his actions, either way, the money wasnt really important to Jamal, he just wanted Latika to see him on the show, the money was.....like a bonus.

In the final scene, we see Salim and the choice he makes - filling the bathtub with money, etc. Why does he make this choice?
Well, by killing the leader of the organization he would free Jamal & Latika of the worry of being chased and killed, to me this was lika a way to be forgiven, a way of redemption, and I think he filled the bathtub with the money, because, everything he did, even if it affected others, was with the purpose of getting money, so, at leats he died with a lot of money, he achieved his goal of having money.

This film weaves together nightmare and impossible dream. What do you take away as the most
important message or impression from the film?
That it doesnt matter, good or bad things, always leave a lesson, if you learn from that lesson, you grow and build a better life for yourself.

  1. I agree with most of your answers completely, but I think that Jamal in certain way thought more during the program, for example, when the host gave him the wrong answer Jamal didn't trust him because knowing that the program was his, he realized that if Jamal won the money then the host would be in bankrupt and would be the end of this program. That's why Jamal decided to use his salvation of 50-50 to see if option B would have been discarded automatically and that way being sure he lied to him.
I agree with the rest of your answers

  2. I completely agree with you. The host saying that he also came from the slums might be a lie to make Jamal believe in him. Salim's choice of filling the bathtub with money was because he wanted to die with money, to feel rich I'd say. Your answers, in my opinion, are completely correct
