Slumdog Millionaire questions

4. Compare and contrast three pivotal choices or decisions made by Jamal and Salim. How does their choices affect their respective life or "destinies"?

Decision 1- Salim kept Jamal trapped on the bathroom making him impossible to go out and see the famous person. Jamal has to go out through under the bathroom and dive into the "shit" of all the people. If Salim hadn't trapped him on the bathroom, Jamal wouldn't had had the famous guy autograph, and therefore, maybe he wouldn't have answered correctly the answer when he grow up, probably changing all the story of th movie.
Decision 2- Jamal and salim tried to escape and Jamal brings Latyka with them. Salim decides not to gring Latyka with them on the train. If Latyka would have come with them, then the story woud have changed and probably no one would have got involved in the mafia or maybe they would live on a different part of India, Jamal wouldn't had participated on "Who wants to be a millionaire."
Decision 3- Salim lets Latyka escape from the warehouse of the mafia. Latyka goes to a part where she sees the program where Jamal plays. This way Jamal knows that she's alright and they communicate later through his brother's celphone.

5. Is ethical decision making possible when one must make choices based on survival? Do seemingly "bad" choices make a person bad?

Ethical decisions are always present and sometimes one must make some decisions that are everything but ethical, those "bad" choices one make in order to protect other people or knowing it's the easiest way to survive due the circumstances doesn't make you a bad person, they are necessary for the best of them and sometimes they make you a better person.

6. What do you think the film is saying about the globalization of culture through media? We see the game show "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?" adapted in the Indian culture. Is this a sign of progress? Why or Why not? What is this film staying about the effect of money on culture?

Culture through the media is reflected on the movie by seeing how culture on the India really is and how all the people there lives and are treated. How those people are killed by muslims and viceversa and what they have to do in order to survive.
This game adapted to the Indian culture IS indeed a sign of progress, because it reflects how the India starts to progress on the economy part and how financially is starting to develope, because such a game wouldn't exist on a country where only poor people exist.
Poor people on the India are really poor and need more money, that's why they all steal things, money and food. Some of them are in urge of money and that's why they go with the mafia in order to obtain it, in India the money is really hard to get in a legal way.

  1. I agree with your anwers, especially with 5. Many people have to do 'bad' choices because of personal reasons and aren't always because they are bad people. In number 6 I don't completely agree with you in the art of the show. It does show some advance, but it's like a show that tries to show how stupid a person is in some questions, because they put really dumb options in some of them, and, most of India is of poverty, so you can't really say it isn't a poor country.
